ROCK THE VOTE #1

For a complete list of rules for voting visit this post from yesterday.

BACKGROUND
Our upper level consists of two bedrooms and a bathroom.
As soon as you get to the top of the stairs, there are three doors. The restroom is straight ahead and the two bedrooms are on either side.

There is not much that can be done with the bathroom door since it is a pocket door and already has some character. It is the other two doors that we are voting on today.

Both doors will be matching but you choose the design. Look through these pictures and consider carefully :)
There is a poll at the end of the post. I do believe that you can vote more than once....or 100 times. And feel free to invite your friends to vote. It is open to EVERYONE. Voting ends on Midnight on MONDAY!

Bead board insert:
I am dying to get beadboard somewhere in this house! Keeps with a cottage feel and would be a DIY project!

Circle Medallion:
So unique, whimsical, and fun. I like that it breaks up square-ness of the entire house.

Tri level inserts:
Fancy, classic, and fairly simple! It just invites you in!

Thanks for your vote. Come back Tuesday to see what won!

You Know You Are Old When...

I mentioned this list briefly during my last post and it got me thinking. Or more like, taking a trip down memory lane. There are a few moments in life where I can actually remember feeling, thinking, or knowing that I am old. Mind you I am 25.

You know you are old when:
- You ask for a crockpot for Christmas
- You get sore from playing Dodge Ball
- You get giddy about a pantry
- Kids don't get your 'Saved by the Bell' references
- You are the only one in the restaurant because you are eating at 5:00pm
- You are teaching kids born in the 2000s!

I am working a summer camp for girls ages 9-14 and they remind me often that I am old.
(More on that camp later) But they also make me feel young again.
The movie up is a great, sad movie about growing up.
But when you are with the one you love, it doesn't matter how old you are.

summer surprise

Or...... a pantry!

I worked late the other night and I came home to a surprise.
When we first moved in, one of the first things we bought was a small out of the box pantry from Target. We put it together and have been using it ever since.

I guess Neil got tired of bending over to see what is in there and squeezing cans in there because when I got home, he had built a whole new pantry.
By his calculations, it has twice as many square feet. It stands 6 feet tall and 2 feet deep!
My favorite part is that both thrash cans, one of which is dog food, fit in it.

It made me giddy and eager to ORGANIZE! I know, kinda lame but I'm a sucker for labels.
The newest addition to my "You know your old when" list - You get giddy for a new pantry.

Stay tuned to see the finishing touches. Looking for a sweet pattern for the shelves.

Featured on

Once upon a time, I wrote about my first feature.

A "big" blog featured my garden sign/storage.

That seems like so long ago. Since then, there have been a few other features.
As a means of recording those features, there is a page at the top that says "Featured At". Here you will find a list of all the places that have put up my crafts. Many of them show the same craft but it is a good way to "get to know" new blogs, if you are interested.

The most recent one was today at SPUNKY JUNKY. They featured my map curtain.

The Best Seat in the House

It is crazy how one little guy can change your way of living.

While working at the table, he loves to keep Neil company. Most of the time he just sits there as long as Neil stays there.
Besides the countless hours of playing tug-o-war, Lewie paces back and forth from the window to the door.

So, we thought we would solve the pacing problem by setting "his" chair by the window. He now has a window seat and the best seat in the house. He can keep tabs on the house and see EVERYTHING! Which sometimes causes more problems that just pacing. He gets super excited when he sees anything - a rabbit, birds, leaves, anything. This excitement often results in throwing himself at the door until we let him out.

I think a doggie door would work well, but "the energy"!

Tagxedo

While browsing online today I ran into a new site. It is Tagxedo.
If you have not heard of it, you are not alone. I do not know the purpose of it except that it can create cool, unique art. It takes words and puts them into any shape you want. The best part is that it can take words straight off a website or blog and put them in for you.

Here are two examples.
This one took words off of my blog.

This one is an example they show in thier gallery. How they did it I do not know.
There are a lot of options and tons of learning to do to make it look this nice but going through the gallery is cool. They have so many shapes - Abe Lincoln, Mona Lisa, birds, dogs, trees, etc.
After spending some time with it, I'm sure you can create a masterpiece!

On the record.

One of our three bedrooms serves as an office, library, music room, craft room and guest room. With all that jazz going on, I try to keep things organized.

My current project was getting the collection of vinyl records better organized. Currently, the sit in an unused DVD tower. As you can see, they do not fit! And of course that drives me crazy but I do appreciate the effort :)

After looking at several options like these cool fabric bookshelves:

I decided to streamline it. I purchased these SPICE RACKS from IKEA for $4 each.
The Mr. hung them up and on the same wall.

They were the perfect size and although i was worried about being able to hold the weight, they seem to be working fine...and they look good too.

I love organization!

map it out

Recently, I have been caught up on DIY projects with maps. I love the variety of colors and vintage feel. We already have a map "curtain" in our guest room.

I saw these matted picture frames on Martha Stewart.com

and I thought it would be cute way to document the places life takes us.
I shopped Laverty's (my favorite shop in Waco) and bought this map for $1. I chose an map of Central America from 1938.

I bought the mats from the dollar store and was pleasantly surprised when I got home and found out that there are two mats for $1!!

Next step, I traced the mat on the map (got that?) and cut it out. I used Modge Podge on both sides of the map and put it down.

.Here is the look I was going for

This map includes Waco and the other includes Belize, which is actually listed as British Honduras in 1938. Nice, personalized, unique wall art.
