Thanks to Mrs. Martha Stewart I have found a free way to mark my garden. I mostly rely on memory which works well for the garden bed but for seeding, that NEVER works!
While browsing marthastewart.com I found this free cheap idea.
First grab some good lookin' sticks :) I have TONS on my 1.5 acres!
The directions say to use a peeler but I just used an old ($store) kitchen knife. You cut a couple of layers off the top. It should look something like this.
Next you get a sharpie and write your vegetables, plants, herbs etc. I only have veggies :)
I sprayed a clear coat on top to protect from the elements but I am not sure you have to do that step.
The entire process took literally, 5 minutes. Of course, it was FREE so nothing beats that but I like the organic natural feel.
happy planting
That is a great idea and right up my alley! Well... if we had sticks... In phx, trees and sticks aren't abundant... I'm sure I can figure something out. We hope to plant our first garden next year!! I'm gonna remember this! Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. I noticed that YHL had my chair on it today - pretty cool! I responded to your comment on my blog with my suggestions... :) But, I love that she tried it!!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea, Margo. I am going to use it if and when we get our garden planted :)

Very timely as I will be sweating my tushie off while planting in my garden this weekend. I like this idea much better than using cheesy plastic markers. It just so happens I have a bunch of stick like that in my brush pile! Thanks!
ReplyDeletesuper cute. love this too!
ReplyDeleteLove those!! Thanks for sharing this tip at my linky party :)
ReplyDeletelove it!! I think I'm going to try that this year for my garden
ReplyDeleteVisiting from The DIY Show Off. Very nice. And simple too. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the rustic awesomeness of these markers! They would look perfect in my container garden with my brand new DIY rustic bench! www.decoratingdiy.blogspot/2011/05/4-upcycled-bench.html
