On most projects, I have the confidence to work on.
But there are two that I do NOT.
1) electrical
2) wood work
The problem is that many of my ideas involve one or the other.
Currently, I am dreaming of new light fixtures. Lots of them.
I have had a couple of ideas with wood work and I took full advantage of my father in law's visit.
He's great. and great with wood work.
I found this old drafting table that would be great for my map making.
The top was warped and I asked if he could fix that.
He did.
and also everything else about the table!
Its just so pretty and functional and fits the feel of our house!
Another project was toy storage in a kid's room.
I couldn't find anything that was more functional than the IKEA cubbies that you see everywhere.
But I wanted more. I knew I wanted a wood top and casters at the bottom.
But he added STAINED wood, with no visible nails, and 6 casters!
It looks great!
I must have gained some confidence from all his success.
I decided to work on a wood project myself.
Our neighbors cut down a tree and there was a pile of wood on their curb.
I picked through and found a couple of pieces for a side table.
*I was pregnant when this happened so that means,
this piece has been sitting in the basement for 2+ years
I pulled it out and scraped off the first layer of bark.
I have found that my procrastination of projects usually has to do with proximity to the kids.
If I have to be in another room to work while the kids are awake, I'm probably not going to do it.
If the kids are asleep, I sacrifice time with Neil or stay up way too late.
So, I put a table cloth down and worked in the living room.
I asked Neil to spray paint the legs of an old stool we had and he screwed it directly into the stump.
It looks better than I thought it would.
I wasn't sure about the height but it fits perfectly with the rocker!
When CoCo saw it, he said "TREE!"
All these projects turned out great!
Now onto the lights.....?
