And the winner is....

LOVE LETTER!
I am excited, although I have no idea how I am going to do this....I guess that's the fun in it!
Here are two examples of how it might look.

I think it is a fun, unique way to personalize your space. It would especially be cute for newlyweds with the Mr. & Mrs. in the title.
So, I am off to find an envelope sent to us recently :)
Hopefully, it will be finished within the month.

Thanks to all who voted!

rock the vote #2

If you missed Rock the Vote #1, it was a good time.

Round 2 is here and today we are voting on our "master" bedroom.
First, let me say "Excuse the bed making in these photos." It happened to be after our puppy sleeps on it all day :) But, it does give an example of the color scheme.

We are looking for fun, appropriate bedroom art to spice up the place. So here are the contenders.

1) Love Letter: This would be a blown up copy of a personalized envelope. I have had this picture saved on my desktop for 2 years!

2) Chalk Talk: The idea would be to create a chalkboard (hopefully oval) from an old mirror or frame. This would allow a change every season, holiday, etc. It sounds so fun!

3) Puppy Love: We have two puppies that we love. This is another DIY project with large canvases.

Now it is time to vote for your favorite! I do believe you can vote more than once. Invite your friends, too. Voting ends Thursday!

Come back Friday to see what won!

From the Inside looking Out

Sometimes I get all giddy when I drive up to my house. I just love the long drive way. I like the way our house looks so cute and welcoming. I like our little piece of land.

But sometimes, I get giddy inside. I love our comfortable couch and our open layout but, I usually find myself smiling from the inside looking out.

Here are a few reasons why.

1) This is our view most nights. The sun sets directly in our kitchen window.

Its a nice way to end the day :)

2) This makes me smile because of its simplicity. I love that we try to live a simple life and be green. But even moreso, when I see this out of our back door it usually means that the mister is doing laundry and I am not :)

3) Why wouldn't this make you smile. He acts like the king of his castle. This is a regular spot for him as he protects his home. Although, sometimes he stares inside...like when we are eating dinner.

So that is my perspective from the inside looking out. Hope your views bring a smile to your face, too!

Hallelujah! It's raining Rain!

Last night we had thunderstorms!!!
Texas has been in deperate need for rain.
Friday and Saturday it was raining in San Antonio, but not at home.
Saturday night it rained in Waco, but not at home....we were driving back from a game and it literally stopped raining about 2 miles from our house.

But last night, it happened!
For the first time since MAY!
We got 2 inches of rain and our first chance to use our water collection system!

Both got filled about 1/3 full. At least we know it works :)

Versatility

This morning I received a little message from a fellow blogger.
I have been awarded THE VERSATILE BLOGGER Award!

Here is what she had to say:

To:
Margo at One Life to Love, I award The Versatile Blogger Award.

I found stumbled upon Margo's blog when I saw her project to spruce up a kitchen floor mat featured on another blog. I jumped over to see the "how to" and fell in love with Margo and her blog. The sub-title of her blog is "Creating a Happy Home in 1000 sq ft." I'm looking forward to more of her projects.

Stop by and visit her blog to see more :)

Wild Fires - When it hits home.

Texas is suffering from extreme drought conditions and recently, wildfires have been sweeping across the country.
Well this time it hit really close to home. My tia (aunt) and her family live on some acres south of San Antonio by Southside High School. Well, we found out today that her house is totally gone :(
It took out four houses and 50 acres.

We will be heading down there Friday afternoon to help. Our family is large and I am confident that there will be some serious work done.

So, as you go through your day, join me in sending prayers and thanksgivings their way.

Hi, I'm Mat!

I love long weekends.
I set aside some time this weekend for creativity since I have been a little off my game.
I decided to spruce up the kitchen.
I have this really functional (the soft squishy kind), yet bland kitchen mat.

I have seen some tutorials online for painting rugs, mats, etc.
I figured, it can't get any worse so I got to work.
The first step was covering the dark background with a base coat.

After that dried, I went on to paint it 3 different shades of yellow trying to find the right one to match my kitchen.

More dry time and then on to the creative aspect. I couldn't decide what pattern to do. Stripes? polka dots? words? Ok, wording....but what?
Neil came to the rescue with the suggestion of "YUM". Very appropriate.
I simply wrote on the mat with pencil.

I traced it with white acrylic paint and voila!

I did not add an overcoat of polyeurethane or anything that might help keep the paint on. I did drop water on it, stepped on it with shoes, bare feet, and socks to see what might happen. And nothing did. So I guess for now, we will see how that goes.

Its the perfect shade of yellow and it adds a little whimsy to our kitchen. Plus, it was FREE! I had all the paints already and I rescued a boring mat!

I would call that a successful crafting day.

My other half

Labor Day weekend of 2008, I was proposed to in a small one bedroom apartment after spending 6 weeks in Belize!
I was just out of college and felt a call to do some of HIS work so I headed out to Belize to work with a mission group. I was so ready, except for the fact that I would leave my boyfriend behind.
Ever since the day we met in September of 2006, we spent everyday together.
So this time away was either going to make us or break us.
Well, obviously you know it ends well :)
I was greeted at the airport by my dad and Neil.
Little did I know that dad had already given his blessing.
The first time we were alone, in apartment 8, he popped the question over pizza, ice cream, and Encahanted.
Simple and so very us.

Labor Day Weekend will always have a special place in my heart.
It is the day I gained my other half.

Sic 'em Bears

If you don't already know...we heart Baylor.
Yesterday was a day for the books! We opened our season against TCU(ranked 14th).
As usual, we were not expected to win. But WE DID!

We had great, shaded seats :)
Our QB, RGIII is expected to do great things this year and he started off the season with a bang.
2 Trick plays, 3 perfect long passes, and a big win.
We were ahead by 24 but they came back and it went down to the wire. We ended with an interception to win the game. Boy, those fans TCU fans were Not happy!
But it was a good game.

So good and unexpected that the fans stormed the field.
Looking forward to more exciting games...it's that time of year again!!!
